Workman's compensation?

The other day I was working and a very high-level person accidentally pushed me into a sharp corner, hitting my spine. They took me to the hospital, the doctor just said i had bruising and swelling and prescribed me some medications. The company i work for paid for the hospital visit and the meds, but say they can't give me any money for work time missed. Is this true or are they just screwing me over?
