The ratchet on my MK 6 Ford Escort (1998) has broken and needs replacing how would i do it?

The Ratchet is a half moon shape. Basically i need to know how to take the pedal box out and put the new ratchet in. Is there any websites or anywhere to download information or even if you have enough time write a step by step guide. I dont have a haynes manual by the way :( Thanks :) :)
